Average Monthly Searches
This metric measures the average number of monthly searches for a trend over the past year. It shows how relevant and top-of-mind a trend is for consumers by quantifying real-world interest beyond social media. This is a valuable signal of consumer demand and long-term relevance—helping determine whether a trend is a fleeting moment or part of a broader cultural conversation worth investing in.
- Very High Volume – Trends are well established trends among consumers.
- High Volume – Trends are those with high consumer awareness.
- Medium Volume – Trends are fairly well known by consumers.
- Low Volume – Trends have low consumer awareness.
- Very Low Volume – Trends represent emerging niche opportunities.
Average Brand Searches
This metric measures the average monthly search volume for branded terms related to a trend or category. It reflects the level of brand competition—high search volume suggests a crowded space with strong brand presence, while low volume signals potential whitespace and first-mover advantage. This helps brands understand how saturated a trend is and where there may be room to stand out.
- Very High Competition – Indicates there are many brand searches.
- High Competition – Indicates that there are several brand searches alongside a trend.
- Medium Competition – Indicates that there are some brand searches alongside a trend.
- Low Competition – Indicates that there are a few brand searches alongside a trend.
- Very Low Competition – Indicates there are little to no brand searches alongside a trend.
Volume Trends and Growth Metrics
Spate’s Google Search Metrics track changes in search interest over different timeframes:

- Increase in Volume (YoY): The difference in search volume between the past 12 months and the previous 12 months.
- Year-over-Year Growth: Growth rate comparing the latest 12 months to the previous 12 months.
- Increase in Quarterly Volume (QoQ): The difference in search volume between the past three months and the previous three months.
- Quarter-over-Quarter Growth: Growth rate comparing the latest quarter to the previous quarter.
- Increase in Monthly Volume (MoM): The difference in search volume between the past month and the previous month.
- Month-over-Month Growth: Growth rate comparing the latest month to the previous month.
